{"id":3088,"date":"2021-10-21T17:38:54","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T16:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gateshead-fc.com\/?p=3088"},"modified":"2021-10-21T17:50:49","modified_gmt":"2021-10-21T16:50:49","slug":"johnson-says-ladies-must-avoid-complacency-in-vitality-womens-fa-cup-tie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gateshead-fc.com\/johnson-says-ladies-must-avoid-complacency-in-vitality-womens-fa-cup-tie\/","title":{"rendered":"LADIES | Johnson: We must avoid complacency in Vitality Women&#8217;s FA Cup tie"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Gateshead Ladies manager Simon Johnson knows his side can\u2019t afford to be complacent as they gear up for Sunday\u2019s Vitality Women\u2019s FA Cup third round qualifying tie.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Heed face Harrogate Town Ladies at Gateshead International Stadium (4G pitch) at 2pm this weekend looking to make it to the first round proper as the men\u2019s team did in midweek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great exposure for myself and the players having this experience in the FA Cup,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last two games in the competition have been positive and it\u2019ll be another big day for the club on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had no real goals in terms of wanting to reach a specific round, for myself I wanted to see how far we could go, being new to the competition as a club and for the majority of the squad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve done some research myself and spoken to some coaches in Harrogate\u2019s league, and I think it will be similar to the Spennymoor game with two teams wanting to play football.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the last couple of results, it\u2019s about looking at what can we do better and how can we show our character from those setbacks while staying true to our identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll need to take our opportunities on Sunday, as we might not get as many as we have done in other games, so we need to be clinical if we are to progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Heed have dropped to fourth in Durham FA Women\u2019s League One following a 1-1 draw away to title contenders Birtley Town, before a 5-2 defeat at home to Hartlepool Pools Youth Ladies last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson admits those results have given him food for thought heading into the biggest game of the team\u2019s brief history, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s been a learning curve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeams will punish us if we\u2019re complacent, but we also need to avoid straying from our identity and our style of play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe minute we start to revert to type or things we\u2019ve done in the past then there\u2019s an opportunity for teams to take points from us, and that\u2019s happened in the last two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was pleasing despite the defeat last week was that our identity was there, and the amount of chances we created was a major plus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson will have a boost to his squad this weekend with the return of Amber Douglas following her suspension, while Jade Anderson\u2019s departure offers opportunities to players on the fringes of the starting 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking to players who have been wanting game time who now have an opportunity to take that chance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking to bring a few players in to help us out in terms of matching our outgoings, but when we do bring players in it\u2019s up to me to make sure they\u2019re the right fit for the club.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gateshead Ladies manager Simon Johnson knows his side can\u2019t afford to be complacent as they gear up <\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/gateshead-fc.com\/johnson-says-ladies-must-avoid-complacency-in-vitality-womens-fa-cup-tie\/\" class=\"readmore\"> Read More  &raquo;<\/a>","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":2384,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1,19,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3088","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-all-news-media","category-club-news","category-ladies-team"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.8 -
